On behalf of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland we are delighted to invite you to Considering Grace: Unpacking the impact on Friday, 20 March 2020 beginning at 10am in Assembly Buildings, Fisherwick Place, Belfast.
Last year PCI published a book Considering Grace: Presbyterians and the Troubles which captures a range of experiences of the Troubles of people from a Presbyterian background including ministers, victims, members of the security forces, emergency responders, healthcare workers and ‘critical friends’ of the Presbyterian tradition.
The stories told within the book are a means of offering healing and forgiveness within congregations and to equip the denomination as it seeks to contribute to the shaping of a better future. To further these aims this half–day conference is now planned to begin to unpack the impact of the book, both for PCI and also for wider society.
During Considering Grace: Unpacking the Impact Very Rev Dr Stafford Carson will unpack the impact of the book for PCI, before Canon David Porter, Chief of Staff to the Archbishop of Canterbury helps us unpack the impact for wider society.
A study resource to help congregations and other small groups unpack the themes emerging from Considering Grace within their own context will also be launched.
There will be an opportunity for roundtable discussions, and to put questions to a panel which will include Dr Gladys Ganiel, co–author of the book and Dr Nicola Brady, General Secretary to the Irish Council of Churches, along with the two main speakers.
Our time together will conclude with lunch which will give you an opportunity to continue conversations on the impact of the book and what you have heard throughout the morning.
Considering Grace is part of PCI’s contribution to conversations about legacy, dealing with the past and shaping a better future. The book itself is only the start of that process and we look forward to exploring further with you on Friday 20 March.
There is no cost to attend the event but registration is essential to secure your place and this can be done through the clicking on the image below or following this link: https://www.presbyterianireland.org/consideringgrace
