Spiritual Resilience and Community Empowerment
EcoQuakers Ireland invites you to the public talk ‘Spiritual Resilience and Community Empowerment’ by Alastair McIntosh. This event will take place in the Cork Quaker Meeting House, Summerhill South, Cork City.
Climate change is a major threat to planetary wellbeing. Come what may, this presses us to consider questions of resilience: how best to strengthen our natural and human ecologies so as to be able to bounce back from unexpected knocks. In his talk, Alastair McIntosh will explore this from his applied work in Scotland with both rural land reform and urban regeneration. He will discuss the idea of a Cycle of Belonging by which the sense of responsibility to safeguard a sense of place is strengthened, and explore three types of resilience: of ecosystems, of knowledge, and of the Spirit. It is the last on which he will especially focus: what are the spiritual qualities that we need to develop to see the human condition, and life on Earth, continue into the future and flourish, hopefully, with dignity.
